Our Very first dressed Bird had to be a baker!
There is a Story Behind our Birds
Our Mascots came about because when I was at Fanshawe Pioneer Village, Robert Mc Master found the bird and decided he was cute. He tweeked him so we could use him and so we did. One of my staff took him home, had her husband cut him out of wood and she painted him, and he graced our door at the cafe until we departed there, but he had no name.
We used him for many years in black and white on our products but still no name. A Few years ago I decided that I would re-brand 4 & 20 Blackbirds and possibly he was not what I was looking for. I was approached by Jeff Wakefield and told that he was exactly what I should use. All we need to do is colour him and dress him in different clothes, and it will be great. So the process began.
First our bird was given some colour and then Jeff set about dressing him in many different outfits. We use one or the other of them on all of our product packaging. I think Jeff has had as much fun drawing them as we had coming up with ideas.
So now they need names! So we started a contest on Facebook to see who could give each bird the best name. There have been alot of great names suggested over the years. But we think that we have chosen the right names for each of our feathered characters.
Stay tuned to our website and to Facebook because we are not through with them yet. You might be one of the lucky basket winners that names our next Bird.
Our 1812 Soldier was next. I think Jeff's favourite.
